APURE celebrates Europe's Day

8 and 9 May 2011, Pinhal Interior Sul (Portugal)

Integrated in commemorations of Europe's Day 2011, APURE, in partnership with Pinhal Maior and R.E.D, and with the support of Mação, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova, Sertã and Vila de Rei councils, carried out a sort of transnational initiatives to sign the ephemerid, in 8th and 9th May.

The first day of programme was marked by a joined-up thinking of members present , and consisted in a workshop about association's future (that has more than 20 years of existence), through the revision and actualization of goals to achieve and in the delineation of individual and collective mobilization methods.

In 9th May, Europe's Day, the morning was occupied by a set of four conferences, each one carried out in a different village, under the following thematic:

1. "Systems of local government at rural areas of low demographic density" by Lorenzo Barbera, in Mação;

2. "New trends in European Rural Development Policies for after 2013" by Gerard Peltre, in Sertã;

3. "Fight against hunger policies" by Armelle Prade, in Cernache do Bonjardim;

4. "The grouping of small and medium producers and the access to high centralised markets" by Yves Champetier, in Oleiros.

During the second workday's afternoon, an European Round Table also took place with the participation of rural development specialists from Portugal, France, Italy and England, that through an animated dialogue with Deputy Mayor of Proença-a-Nova could know economic, politic and social reality of that territory, showing new ways and solutions to the region's integrated and sustained local development.
